The Sixth Station

VI. Veronica wipes the face of Jesus.

Behold the wood of the Cross…

Pause and hold your heart and the world in your hands.

She didn’t have to, but she chose to. Surely it must have taken a lot of courage to step out of that angry mob, to extend that kind gesture of wiping Jesus’ face with her veil.

Veronica’s compassion got the better of her. She felt so much for Jesus that she found the needed courage to do what she did.

In return, we are told, our Lord rewarded her with a gift: a miraculous imprint of His Holy Face on her veil.

Veronica’s story is not found in Scripture, but the Church has always told this story to teach a profound truth: Compassion produces courage.

In a world where things seem to—all at once—be falling apart, more than ever, we need courage. If like many, you find yourself running on empty in courage, do what Veronica did on that road to Calvary: Gather your compassion and let it fuel your courage.

For what will matter—what will truly make the difference—is our compassion, our ability to put ourselves in the place of those suffering and our willingness to put ourselves out there the way Veronica did for the Lord.

Gather your compassion and let it fuel your courage to do good, to make a difference.

Ask the Lord what you can do—where you can channel your compassion and courage in a world that is in such great need of them.

How can you bring His Presence and Face to others? How can you be an agent of compassion and courage to let others know that they are not alone, that no matter how hopeless or hapless they feel, they will be found?

The song for this station is a simple and well-known prayer, “Make Me a Channel of Your Peace.” Listen to the words, and make the song your prayer.:

Lord, help me to gather my compassion and let it fuel my courage. I pray that I may have the courage to unite my family in Bauang. I pray that you touch their heart and forgive each other, wipe away all resentments, and believe in love that binds them from the start

Thank you Lord for sending me prayers that I share to your chosen people who need them most, leaving an imprint of your face in their heart🙏😇❤️

It’s sometimes hard to help people who you think don’t help themselves and just relying on dole outs. But it also makes me feel sorry for their fate. So I just continue helping them. And yes , may our politicians be more of service to our poor instead of enriching themselves. 🙏🏼

Lord Jesus, be always with me so that I can show compassion to those people around me who need it. Give me the grace not to judge their circumstances and just be there for them.

Make me a channel of Your peace O God. But if I may ask, please grant me peace in my heart, teach me to surrender everything to You, so that I can be a channel of Your peace. Amen. 🙏

Make me a channel of your peace Lord.
Open my eyes and heart to grow in compassion and courage to offer myself.
Amen.

There are times when I get tired of helping the poor because sometimes I feel hopeless and useless. May I find consolation in helping them. Sometimes I blame them like why did you deliver ___ children into this world when you cannot feed, clothe, shelter and educate them? What happened to responsible parenthood? Then when I sèe them patronizing corrupt politicians, I get really angry. Sa loob loob ko, dasurv nyong maghirap. Ayaw nyo sa tapat at totoong Lingkod Bayan!
