In a time of pandemic,
hand-washing has become
a social responsibility–
a responsibility that we have
to ourselves
as well as to others.
But on the very first Good Friday,
hand-washing became a symbol
of social indifference,
for not engaging, for not caring.
We know who we’re talking about:
Pontius Pilate.
Take your time
in reading Matthew’s account
of our Lord’s trial before Pilate.
Note the different ways
that Pilate tried repeatedly
not to get involved in Jesus’ case.
Play this music to pace your reading
and reflection.
When you are done reflecting on the passage,
you may proceed.
