Since then we have been trying to follow Jesus’ example.
This is why priests do that symbolically during the Holy Thursday liturgy.
The Holy Father does it too.
In fact, on Holy Thursday last year,
Pope Francis did more:
He broke with tradition and washed the feet of two Muslims.
And he came under a lot of fire and criticism.
It’s a sure sign that he must have done something right.
Washing other people’s feet
isn’t the most comfortable thing to do.
Finding yourself at people’s feet
isn’t the most prestigious place either,
but more often than not, that’s where the Lord is.
